Jock Duncan 1918 - 2007 It is with regret and much sadness that we have to announce the passing on 25th January 2007 of our Branch President, George (Jock) Morrison Duncan following a long illness. As his popular name suggests, Jock was born in Maud, Aberdeenshire on 27th May 1918. Following his schooling he joined the Aberdeenshire Constabulary becoming Police Constable 663 ZK. With the outbreak of the second World War in 1939, although in a reserved occupation, Jock was becoming restless and eventually volunteered for the Royal Air Force and joined in April 1941. On enlistment he was recommended for training as a pilot and was sent to the USA and Canada for this stage of his career. On gaining his wings, Jock returned to the UK and began his wartime flying career. After a period of familiarisation and conversion training he joined No 75 New Zealand Squadron at RAF Mepal and began to fly the Stirling Bomber. After a number of sorties with No 75 Squadron he became an instructor before converting to the mosquito and joining No 608 Squadron at RAF Downham Market. When the war ended in 1945 he was kept on for a while but was eventually discharged on 10th July 1946. Copyright GTR Computers 2017 Wisbech Branch
